We are starting this walking route with departing from Cruz de Tejeda and from there it will first take us along the border of the Caldera de Tejeda.

The views during the first part of the route over the valleys and the natural monuments are breathtaking,as well as the west side of the Island and last but not least the impressive west mountains of Gran Canaria,
Little by little we get closer to Roque Bentaiga the next protagonist of our route and the Acusa valley. The Roque Nublo we left behind will look smaller and smaller with every step we take towards our new destination.
A short stop at the Cuevas Caballero which was an important early settlement for the Canaries will give you a good idea about how the old inhabitants of the Island used to live.

Leaving this point we will be walking in the foot steps of long gone animals. Entering a pine forest and you will find the route which has been used for many generations by a lot of animals for the migration looking for better grasslands.
With a bit of luck you will enjoy the wonderful views over to Tenerife, the highest mountain in Spain called Pico del Teide, and also the sea of clouds which makes you think that it is possible to walk upon it over to Tenerife and covers this area from time to time.
In Artenara, the highest Village of Gran Canaria is where this route finishes. But not before we will have a visit at the sanctuary of Virgen de la Cuevita the sculpture of the Spanish philosopher "Miguel de Unamuno". He was the one who called the views of Gran Canaria´s west side the petrified storm. Another highlight of Artenara is the impressive Artenara s church which we will visit too.

The charming Cave -Museum of Artenara is well worth a visit too. It is a truely interesting place because it shows you how the people lived in the past in this area and is the best place, to finish off our day together in a perfect way.
